1st and 2nd graders play on teams of 8 players.  They practice and play for one hour each Saturday morning at the SMS gym between 9:00AM and 2:00PM.  The hour is split as follows:  the first hour is dedicated to practicing individual skills and basketball fundamentals.  The last hour is a structured game playing 4 v 4 with the hoops lowered to 7’.  The goal of this 10 week session is to introduce the game of basketball to young players, working on the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting and playing together as a team.  Coaches continue to instruct players during games as well as during their practice time.

Travel Teams for 5th and 6th graders (Girls and Boys teams)

Travel teams are selected by try-outs held in December.  This program is designed for the more developed basketball players, from a skills perspective, who can commit to more games and practice time than just the rec program offers.  In conjunction with their commitment to their rec teams, players are also required to attend one travel practice per week and an additional game per week.  The travel season continues through the end of March and includes some tournament play.  Players can expect practicing and/or playing games at least 4 days per week (rec and travel combined).  Travel teams play a variety of teams throughout the seacoast, northern MA, and southern Maine – at most 1 hour travel distance. (example: Rochester NH, Amesbury MA, Londonderry NH, York ME)
