July BOS Newletter

town seal

July 10, 2017

Dear Stratham Residents,

We hope you had an enjoyable and fun filled July 4th holiday.

We again want to take this opportunity to remind you of the following important Town items:

It is with sadness that we accepted the resignation of Park Ranger Kim Woods.  Kim has been a dedicated contributor for many years at Stratham Hill Park.  We wish her the best in the future going forward with other pursuits.  Thank you, Kim!

This creates a very important vacancy in our Town staff.  Be on the watch on the website and other postings for the position announcement.

Open committee appointments:  The Board needs volunteers to serve in the following very important positions:

  1. Conservation Commission—1 alternate member
  2. Board of Adjustment—2 alternate members
  3. Recreation Commission—2 alternate members
  4. Heritage Commission—1 alternate member
  5. Public Works Commission—3 alternate members
  6. Technical Review Committee—1 regular & 1 alternate members
  7. Energy Commission—2 regular members
  8. Rockingham Planning Commission—1 alternate representative
  9. Southeast Watershed Alliance—1 regular representative
  10. Exeter Squamscott River Local Advisory Council—1 regular representative

We would welcome the public’s interest in serving on these boards.

Upcoming activities:  Stratham Fair 50th anniversary Thursday through Sunday, July 20, 21, 22, and 23.  www.strathamfair.com

  • Fireworks are scheduled Thursday, July 20.  There will be NO fireworks on Sunday.
  • Resident pre-purchase entry tickets are available at Stratham Town Clerks office, Town Hall now through Wednesday, July 19, 2017.  These are offered at a reduced rate.
  • Fair needs volunteers.  To learn more about opportunities to join your neighbors in these efforts, go to the Fair’s website at http://www.strathamfair.com/volunteer/.

Dogs at Stratham Hill Park:  We continue to receive complaints about dogs at the Park.  As many of you know, dogs are welcomed at the Park under certain restrictions.  Those restrictions include that all dogs need to be leashed in the open areas of the Park.  The only exceptions are the forested areas of the Park, the Town Forest, and the open fields of the Gifford Property.  If your dog is allowed to be unleashed, they must still be under the command and control of the owner of the dog.  We continue to ask that dog owners be responsible for their pets including picking up pet wastes.  If the presence of dogs at the Park continues to create conflicts in the use and enjoyment of the Park properties, other measures will have to be considered and pursued.  We are hopeful it does not come to that.

Stratham Hill Park Association: The Selectmen are asking interested residents to be part of the SHPA to advise us on the use, development, and maintenance of the Park.  Become a member and sit on the SHPA board.

See you at the Fair

Enjoy the Summer!
