Dear Stratham Residents,

Please read below for news and notes from the Town of Stratham regarding important information about the moderate drought conditions in Stratham, the region and the State.  Please see important information below regarding the issue.

Moderate Drought Continues in Stratham; Cooperation by Residents Needed
As urged by State of NH, Stratham is adopting Water Restrictions

The entire State of NH is experiencing sustained moderate drought conditions and portions of Rockingham County are in extreme drought.  Recently, Stratham joined other communities in urging water conservation through its newsletter; and late last week NH DES urged municipalities to adopt water restriction regulations in accordance with RSA 41:11d.

At their regular meeting, on July 18th, the Select Board agreed to implement water restrictions in accordance with this state request and a Level 1 drought restriction will be in place effective Friday, July 29 (following the required posting period).  Until further notice, lawn watering will be limited as part of a statewide strategy for preserving groundwater supplies that serve as critical resources for Stratham households and businesses.  All efforts to curb and reduce use of water during this time will benefit water supplies we all rely on.  Residents should be aware, the Board may advance to Levels 2 and 3 water restrictions as drought conditions persist or worsen.

A Level 1 restriction means:

  • Lawn watering by odd numbered addresses is allowed on odd numbered days.
  • Lawn watering by even numbered addresses is allowed on even numbered days.
  • Lawn watering shall not occur between the hours of 8AM and 7PM.

A posting notifying the community will be published in the Portsmouth Herald on Monday, July 25th.  In addition to this newsletter, the message regarding the restrictions will be posted on the Town’s message boards in multiple locations as well as the Town’s website and Facebook pages.

Residents with questions regarding the restrictions, are asked to visit the Town’s resource page related to the drought.  Questions can also be directed to the Town Administrator’s Office (603) 772-7391 ext. 187.
