Wiggin Memorial Library

ANNOUNCEMENT OF TEMPORARY LIBRARY SATURDAY CLOSURE

Due to unforeseen circumstances among our staff and their families, the Library Board of Trustees have voted to close the library on Saturdays for the month of June.  Please note we do not make this decision lightly, but this temporary consolidation of our open hours will allow us to function more effectively with our remaining available staff, and to provide better service to our patrons when we are typically at our busiest.  To help serve our patrons who can’t visit during the week, we will open the door to our front hallway from 9:30am–5pm on these Saturdays to allow patrons to pick up items they have reserved on hold.

We appreciate your understanding and support during this difficult time for our library family. We will resume our regular Saturday hours beginning July 6.

Sincerely,
On behalf of the Wiggin Memorial Library Board of Trustees Scott Campbell and Heather Burroughs, Co-Interim Directors

MAY SMS SCHOOL BOARD UPDATE

There were many members of the public who came to request that the board be mindful of the tax impact of the school building renovation.

The Building Committee affirmed that because of public input over the past several months, the $46 million renovation would not be moving forward, and that the new plan is to form a larger committee including public members to provide input into the scope of the must haves for academic and facilities renovations.  If you are interested in being on that committee, see the SMS Homepage for details.  The board interviewed four candidates to fill in the open seat and elected Tanya Scales as their new member.  The PFOA's application for state funding to provide full building filtration is underway.  The School Board also received briefing on financials, the superintendent evaluation, teacher reports, and they discussed getting better microphones so the public could hear them more clearly.

For more, please see the full board meeting notes here.

If you have questions, please come to the next board meeting on Thursday, June 13th at 6pm at SMS or email our Board Chair, Jennifer Scrafford.
