The Stratham Heritage Commission is state-mandated to recognize, use, and protect our community's resources that are valued for their historic, cultural, aesthetic, or community significance. Members of the Commission participate in activities aimed at preserving the community character of our town. In particular, a database of Stratham's historic structures was researched and compiled by members with the support of the Town. See the list here: Townwide Inventory of Historical Resources. This information is useful to the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, Zoning Board and others interested in the role of our resources to define and preserve Stratham's heritage. Additionally, the Commission continues to collect and verify veteran's names for engraving in the Veterans' Garden at the Stratham Hill Park.
We welcome new participants; join at any time during the year. Individuals interested in history or with database management expertise are invited to visit a meeting, write us c/o the Municipal Center (10 Bunker Hill Ave.) or send an email. The Heritage Commission meets on the second Tuesday of the month at 7:00pm at the Stratham Municipal Center. In the summer there is one meeting to be determined by the members present at the June meeting. Meeting day is reassessed annually in August or September and, if appropriate, a new meeting day is determined to accommodate volunteers' schedules.
