NEW RECHARGEABLE BATTERY DISPOSAL BAN EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2025

To improve safety and waste management, Governor Sununu has signed a new law into effect (RSA 149-M:27) that bans the disposal of rechargeable batteries in regular waste streams. This law will take effect on July 1, 2025 and aims to prevent fires caused by improper battery disposal, reduce disposal costs, and protect the health and safety of waste management workers.  Lithium-ion batteries are used in a variety of products, including electric toys, automotive vehicles, electric bikes and scooters, lawncare equipment, portable electronics such as cell phones, laptops, tablets, cameras, wireless headphones, speakers, toothbrushes and other rechargeable electronic devices.  More information about this change can be found here.

What does this mean for you?
Proper Disposal: Rechargeable batteries must not be placed in regular trash.  While the Stratham Transfer Station does not accept batteries, you can find a nearby recycling location through Call2Recycle’s Locator Tool.

Use the Call2Recycle Locator Tool to find a convenient battery recycling location near you and spread the word!  Residents should contact the NHDES Household Hazardous Waste Program via email at hhw@des.nh.gov or by phone at (603) 271-2047.

BE A SUPER SCOOPER, DON'T POLLUTE!

Dog waste illustration.Stratham is one of several communities in NH required to take action to reduce stormwater pollution.  This effort is enforced by the US EPA under Stratham’s Municipal Separate Sewer and Stormwater System (MS4) Permit.  One requirement of the MS4 Permit is that the Town perform outreach to dog owners on the proper disposal of dog waste.  Here is a link to information on the harmful effects of improper disposal of dog waste: Dog Waste Brochure.  The Town Ordinance, Regulation of Dogs Chapter 1-14, requires expeditious removal of any dog excrement in public places or on the property of another person.  Learn more about Stratham’s MS4 Permit on the Town’s webpage at Stormwater and Stratham's MS4 Permit | Town of Stratham NH or contact the Planning Department at 603-772-7391 ext. 184.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

If you've ever wanted to volunteer for a town board or commission, now is your chance!  At this time, we currently have openings on the Zoning Board of Adjustment and the Recreation Commission.  More opportunities can be found here.  If you have an interest in any board or commission, we encourage you to call (or visit) the Town Administrator's office at 603-772-7391 ext. 187 so we can connect you with a staff person or current board member who can give you more information and answer your questions.  Follow these links to find current openings and an application form
