April BOS Newsletter

April 19, 2018

Dear Stratham Residents,

The Board of Selectmen would like to take this opportunity to inform you of several important happenings in town during the next several weeks.

This evening, April 19th, the Route 108 Corridor Study Committee will hold a public information meeting at 7:00 pm at the Municipal Center.  This is a great opportunity to learn about the proposed Tax Increment Financing District and to ask questions.

The Stratham Conservation Commission pleased to be selling compost bins and rain barrels to Stratham residents again this year at a discounted rate.

The home compost bin is black, has an 80 gallon capacity with a 10-year warranty, and is made of 100% recycled plastic.  It is approximately 33” high and 33” wide, and comes unassembled for easy transportation in any vehicle.  An easy-to-understand composting guide is also included.  Cost of the compost bin is $55.

The rain barrel has a large 55 gallon capacity that offers an excellent water source for lawn and indoor/outdoor plants.  It is made with up to 50% recycled plastic and attaches easily to your existing downspout system.  It includes a mosquito mesh on the top keeps out bugs and leaves, an overflow tube that can be attached to another barrel or go to ground run-off and a spout with a turn-off valve at the bottom. Cost of the rain barrel is $65.

You will find photos of and order forms for the compost bin and rain barrels on the Town website at https://www.strathamnh.gov/conservation-commission/news/compost-bins-and-rain-barrels-are-back .  They will be available for pick-up at the Stratham Highway Dept. on Saturday, April 28th.

The Pedestrian and Cyclist Advocacy Committee was founded in August 2017 by residents that love to walk and bike regularly in Stratham.  Our goals are to improve the safety of pedestrians and cyclists as well as to connect existing trails and public lands in Stratham.  Please share with us how you use the roads and paths in Stratham and provide your valuable opinions to help guide our mission:  https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/strathampcacThe results will be shared in a public forum to be held on June 5th at 7:30 in the CMS cafeteria.

The PCAC is helping to facilitate a Bike to School Day as part of their Safe Routes to School Initiative.  The event will take place for SMS students on May 11 and CMS students on May 16.  Stay tuned for details from the schools.

The Stratham Police Department will be participating in the National Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, April 28th, from 10:00am to 2:00pm.  Stop by the front lobby of the Police Department to drop off any unused or expired prescription drugs you would like to dispose of—no liquids or needles will be accepted.

The Chief Michael Maloney Road Race will be held on Sunday, April 29th.  The race is a 6.2 mile run from the Stratham Police Department to the Greenland Police Department.  The number of participants in this road race is estimated at approximately 1,500.  The runners will be traveling down Bunker Hill Avenue, to Union Road, to Winnicut Road, onto Portsmouth Avenue to the Greenland town line.  We anticipate the runners going through those neighborhoods from approximately 11:05 until 11:20.  There will be police details at all major intersections to assist with the flow of traffic during the race.

As of April 1st, the Transfer Station is now open every Saturday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.  There is a check only policy.  No cash or credit cards are accepted at the station.  Brush and compostable materials can be dropped off for free.
