Town of Stratham Selectman Robert O’Sullivan Announces his resignation.

The Stratham Board of Selectmen announces that Selectman Robert O’Sullivan has submitted his resignation effective with the close of the Board of Selectmen’s meeting on December 3, 2018.

In his resignation letter Mr. O’Sullivan wrote, “With great regret I must resign from the Stratham Board of Selectmen due to failing health.  I have been honored in my selection to the Board, but must recognize the reality that I can no longer serve the Town of Stratham with the energy and attention the community deserves.  I know our town remains in good hands and I look forward to the results of your continued work.”

Chairman Michael Houghton expressed the thoughts of the remainder of the Board by stating, “Bob’s experience, insight, and candor have contributed greatly to the Town’s interest during his time on the board.  It is with true regret that we accept his resignation.  Joe Lovejoy and I wish him well and remain optimistic that his focus on his health will provide much continued happiness for him and his wife Penny.”

In accordance with both RSA 669:61 & 63, the remaining Selectmen will appoint a resident to fill the vacancy created by this resignation during the interim between now and the March 2019 Town Meeting.  At the 2019 March Town Elections, voters will be asked to vote for a candidate to fill the remainder of Mr. O’Sullivan’s term, which will be two years.

Any Stratham resident who has an interest in serving on the Board of Selectmen during the interim period and wishes to be considered for appointment to the position is asked to submit a letter of interest outlining their qualifications.  Letters should be sent to the Office of the Town Administrator, 10 Bunker Hill Avenue, Stratham, NH  03885, or to pdeschaine@strathamnh.gov.  Letters will be accepted until Noon on Monday, December 10, 2018 after which the remaining members of the Board of Selectmen will consider those candidates for possible appointment at a meeting later that day at 6:30 pm.  Town Administrator Paul Deschaine is also available to answer any questions a candidate may have.
