Special Edition Newsletter: Stratham looks to join in on Community Power

Dear Stratham Residents,

Thanks to the hard work of the Stratham Energy Commission and the engagement of residents participating in public forums, the Town is posed to join several other communities in offering a lower cost energy option on residents' electricity bills.

In order to begin the savings associated with this exciting opportunity, we have scheduled a special Town Meeting for October 26, 2023 the timing of which will enable residents to start saving sooner than would be possible with a March Town Meeting.  At this meeting, the residents will be asked to approve of our Community Power plan; this will be the only item of business at this meeting.  We invite the community to learn more about community power through a variety of outreach opportunities between now and October 26th.  As always, your engagement and support is critical to bringing this important improvement to our community.

Opportunities to learn more include:

  1. Watch our five-minute video introducing Stratham Community Power
  2. Attend drop-in sessions and speak with Energy Commission members about your questions:
    • Friday, September 29, 10:00-12:00 – Municipal Center
    • Monday, October 2, 6:00-8:00 – Municipal Center
    • Saturday, October 14, 10:00-12:00 – Municipal Center
  3. Attend a public forum on Thursday October 12th at 7:00 p.m. – Municipal Center

Stay tuned to this newsletter and the Town Facebook page for reminders about the opportunities above and look out for our Energy Commission members who have asked for time at upcoming Stratham Boards and Commission meetings and events who will explain Community Power.  You can read more below in this special edition.

Stratham looks to join in on Community Power

Stratham has formally submitted its Energy Aggregation Plan (EAP) to the NH Public Utilities Commission to establish a community power supply option for its residents with the expectation that Stratham Community Power will only launch if it is able to initially offer residential default rates that are lower than those offered by Unitil.              .

How Community Power Works

Stratham Community Power combines the buying power of residents and businesses so that together we can achieve competitively priced electricity.  Customers are always free to choose to buy power from Unitil, or from another supplier.

As part of the Community Power Coalition of New Hampshire, we can control price volatility and choose which energy sources to buy or build.
