Stratham Public Works Director to Leave Position for Private Sector Opportunity

Director of Public Works Colin Laverty has announced he is leaving his role with the Town of Stratham to pursue an opportunity in the public sector.

Director Laverty said, “Leaving Stratham was a very difficult decision, but I have a great opportunity that is good for me professionally as well as for my family.”

“The past seven years have been very rewarding. I have enjoyed working for the Town and managing a very successful team dedicated to providing quality public safety services to the residents of Stratham.”

During his tenure the Public Works department focused on its mission of providing essential services to the residents of Stratham in a prompt, courteous, safe, efficient, and cost-effective manner.   Colin started with the town in 2012 and has overseen a number of successful advances in departmental operations as well as improvements to town facilities.  These projects have included the municipal parking lot expansion, new athletic field and walking paths, and landscaping and drainage enhancements at several town properties, as well as successful stewardship of the Maple Lane and Green Wood Cemeteries as well as many other accomplishments.

Colin’s tenure has also seen many organizational advances such as implementing new policy and safety initiatives as well as providing Public Works employees with continuing education and training needed to be successful in their jobs.  He has also created and implemented a new road and infrastructure assessment study as well as oversaw value engineering throughout annual paving and subsurface drainage projects resulting in extensive savings to the Town.

Select Board Chair Mike Houghton expressed his appreciation for Mr. Laverty’s service.  “Colin has consistently performed at a high level and with exemplary dedication to the Town.  We are pleased he has the opportunity to grow professionally.  While his departure is certainly a loss for the Town his contributions to the organizational culture and the operations of the Public Works Department will continue to serve the Town for a long-time to come.

The Board of Selectmen will be moving forward immediately with a search process for the next Public Works Director.
