Author Talk: Ty Gagne

Stratham Municipal Center

Ty Gagne lays out the events that led up to an epic and legendary rescue attempt in severe and dangerous winter conditions in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.

Ty Gagne, Chief Executive Officer of Primex 3, has held executive positions in the municipal, non-profit, and healthcare sectors. He serves on Board of Trustees of the non-profit Mount Washington Observatory and is a certified Wilderness First Responder. Two of his essays, “Weakness in Numbers: How a Hiking Companion can be Dangerous” and “Emotional Rescue” were published in Appalachia journal. Emotional Rescue was the basis for the 2022 major motion picture. “Infinite Storm”. 


From Couch Potato to a 5k

Come along with Stratham Parks & Recreation’s program assistant, resident yogi, and fitness enthusiast, Diane Smith, on a journey from the couch to comfortably walking a 5k. Diane will meet you every Thursday morning at 9:00am, starting on March 7th, at the Great Bay Discovery Center to guide you on a walk around quiet neighborhoods and get you ready to walk the Stratham 5k in early May.

This program is FREE! Registration required.

Crafty Cards Presents: Cards for Kindness®

Join skilled card creators Robin Lynch and Mary Jo McCauley in mastering the art of crafting and designing personalized cards for occasions like Easter, spring, birthdays, and more from scratch.

Cards for Kindness® is a charitable organization that distributes handmade cards to various establishments such as cancer foundations, hospitals, shelters, retirement homes, children's homes, and first responders. This initiative aims to bring joy, smiles, and support to those in need of a heartfelt gesture.


Live Concert with the Southern NH Ukulele Group

Established twelve years ago, SNHUG gathers every other Friday in Brentwood or Exeter, welcoming players of all skill levels. Their gatherings offer classes, workshops, jam sessions, and open mics. SNHUG actively participates in festivals and community events, aligning with their commitment to giving back. Notably, SNHUG has raised over $100,000 for charity to date.

Dive into the next session of our history series presented by our resident history enthusiast, Murph Henderson. Best of all, this series is completely FREE! Lunch will be provided by the Parks and Recreation Department. Registration is required.

This month, Murph will delve into his presentation on General George S. Patton. Explore the history of one of the greatest and most celebrated U.S. generals in American history.


Intro to Salsa Dancing

Intro to Salsa Dancing is designed for the absolute beginner who just wants to give salsa a try. It is designed as a footwork intro, so we’ll give you some fundamentals without getting too serious since we just have 60 minutes. We’ll have fun learning some of the basics, move your body and you’ll get a taste of how we teach and what’s possible if you want to learn salsa!


Caution: Alert about Spam/Scam Information Session

Have you fallen victim to financial fraud or cybercrime, or are you concerned about the possibility? Join us on March 19th from 1pm to 2:30pm for a session with Detective and Community Outreach Coordinator Rochelle L. Jones from the Portsmouth Police Department. Rochelle will discuss various topics such as recognizing and evading scams, financial safety, reporting procedures, and detecting and preventing elder abuse. Registration is required.


Intro to Instant Pot Cooking Series (Class #3)

Come along and join us on March 22nd from 12:00-2:00PM at the Stratham Municipal Center.

$15.00 for residents and non-residents. Registration Required.

Our monthly "lunch and learn" cooking series that will teach you how to cook with an Instant Pot. You'll save time and energy in the kitchen while learning how to make delicious, budget-friendly meals, without sacrificing flavor. We'll provide you with tips and tricks on cooking with less expensive cuts of meat, as well as stocking your pantry with inexpensive staples that will allow you to make quick, nutritious, and economical meals in an instant! During the class, Patricia will demonstrate the basics of cooking in an Instant Pot and how to store leftovers in special individual, portion-size containers that can defrost and reheat quickly.

Each month, we'll explore a new Instant Pot recipe and enjoy a delightful lunch together, sampling it! Our third class will feature a Asian noodle recipe with fixings and cornbread.


NHSPCA Visit Details

Come and join us for a visit from Jordon Roberts of the NHSPCA on Tuesday, March 26th, from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm. Explore the various volunteering opportunities available at NHSPCA in Stratham. Volunteers are essential to daily operations and new members are warmly welcomed into this animal-loving community. With their diverse backgrounds and experiences, volunteers bring richness to the organization. Meet a current NHSPCA volunteer who will share insights and answer questions about their volunteering experience. Be prepared for a special appearance from a furry friend! Join the Guided Walking Art Tour at Alnoba

Join Zach and Diane on March 27th for a guided tour at the Alnoba Property, followed by a delightful lunch at Eastman’s Corner. Nestled in the woodlands of Kensington, NH, Alnoba spans 600 acres of stunning natural scenery adorned with sculptures created by top artists of our time.

Mah Jong Mondays

MahJong on Mondays from 1pm to 3pm beginning March 4th. This will be a relaxing, fun afternoon as we explore Mahjong.

Learn to Play Bridge

When: Friday afternoons from 2:00pm-4:00PM. Starts on Friday February 16th. This is a 10-week series.

This program is FREE!!! Registration Required.

“2-over-1 GAME FORCE” Want to brush up on your Bridge skills? Join Joe Watts, seasoned Bridge player to learn and play duplicate bridge. A basic knowledge of Bridge is required. I.e., previous experience with “Party Bridge” or Bridge according to Goren. Also intermediate players who would like to learn two over one are welcome. All supplies and lesson handouts will be provided.

Bridge is an excellent “brain” game with both strategy and social interaction being key. Don’t be intimidated, this will be a no pressure friendly atmosphere experience.
